Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club posted a tweet about Dele Alli’s effort levels in the 1-0 win over Manchester City.

What’s the story?

Well, among the many world-class players on display in N17 on Saturday, no player covered more distance than Dele.

The 25-year-old ran 11.06km against Pep Guardiola’s men, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham career got off to the perfect start.

It was a performance not usually associated with the 37-cap England international – he was even seen collapsing at full-time, as one fan mentions.

Dele was described as ‘lazy‘ by José Mourinho in a meeting following the ex-Chelsea coach’s arrival, in front of his teammates.

However, it looks like he’s keen to prove Mourinho wrong, after running his socks off for Nuno in the Portuguese manager’s first game.

After calling him lazy, Mourinho eventually froze the £5m out of Tottenham’s first-team.

Dele nearly left to join Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain as a result, but now, he’s been given a lifeline in north London.

With Mourinho gone, the £100,000-a-week man is being given chances to prove himself again.

It will still take time for us to see signs that he can rediscover his form of old.

However, if Saturday is anything to go by, Dele will be giving it his best shot.
