Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke to the media after his side’s 2-1 win against Rapid Wien in the Europa League.
The Austrian giants opened the scoring in the game and were a threat throughout. Bernd Leno’s mistake could have proved to be costly, but goals from David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ensured that Arsenal began the competition with a win.
Away from the ground, Arsenal had a special supporter publicly rooting for them. Mesut Ozil was very active on Twitter throughout the game. The German even predicted a 4-1 victory for his side – something that was brought to Arteta’s attention in his post-match press conference.
Ozil clearly got his prediction wrong but Arteta seemed happy with the German’s involvement on social media. The Arsenal boss claimed that he ‘didn’t expect anything different’ and that he was happy to hear that his number 10 was supporting the team.
He said, as per Arsenal’s official website: “This is great! This is what I want from all the players that aren’t in our squad. I didn’t expect anything different to that, so it’s good to hear.
Ozil clearly is not in Arteta’s plans anymore. The German has been left out of the Premier League and Europa League squads, and it looks like he has played his last game for Arsenal already.
The Gunners want him gone as soon as possible, but Ozil is adamant that he wants to stay.
The former Real Madrid man claimed in his statement earlier this week that he will continue to train as well as he can, and it looks like this saga will carry on until the end of this season.
