Sheffield United are set to complete the shock signing of Gary Madine from Cardiff City, according to BBC Sport Wales.

Madine is already well known to those of a Blades persuasion, having spent four-and-a-half years at their city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The 28-year-old has also scored three times against United – once for Wednesday and twice for Bolton Wanderers – and was caught calling the Bramall Lane captain, Billy Sharp, a ‘fat little pig’ ahead of the Trotters’ visit to the Steel City two years ago.

Perhaps understandably, the speculation has not gone down all too well in the Red and White half of Sheffield.

But what would Sharp make of Madine’s arrival?

This is what the 32-year-old told Alan Biggs after the Cardiff striker’s comments, in March 2017: “I don’t think he said anything that people don’t already know… I think everybody knows I’m fat!

“I had no problem with it. He texted one of the lads who play with me now on the Monday morning – as far as I’m concerned it was done then. But the media did try to make a thing of it and the Bolton fans thought they’d sing to me to try and get to me but, obviously, it worked in my favour (as Sharp scored both goals in a 2-0 win for Sheffield United).”

Cardiff are said to have paid £6 million to sign Madine from Bolton in January last year.

The North East native will reportedly move to Bramall Lane on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Would Madine be a good addition for Sheffield United?
