Leeds United might not have Jean-Kevin Augustin available for their Championship restart later this month.

The top-of-the-table Whites resume their season on June 21 with a visit to Cardiff City.

It’ll be Leeds’ first game in over three months due to the global health crisis, but it looks like Augustin might not be available.

According to BBC journalist Adam Pope and The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are assessing a fresh injury to the 22-year-old French striker.

The Leipzig-owned star joined the Elland Road club on a half-season loan in January but a hamstring problem has limited him to only 48 minutes of football under Marcelol Bielsa.

With only nine Championship games left, now is not the time for Augustin to break down again and here’s how fans of the West Yorkshire side reacted to the prospect of him being injured again on Twitter.

With a seven-point cushion in the top two, Bielsa’s side might get away with not having Augustin fit for the rest of the season.

Patrick Bamford, despite being an inconsistent goalscorer, could probably lead the line well enough to see Leeds get over the line and book their Premier League return.

But it’s already been an anxiety-laden season for the fans, and that’ll only intensify in a big way if it comes out that they’re going to only have one recognised striker for the final nine matches
