Clement Lenglet has singled out Hugo Lloris for praise following Tottenham Hotspur’s victory on Saturday.
The Lilywhites picked up a fourth victory from six Premier League outings by edging out Fulham 2-1 in North London.
Goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane helped Spurs to a big three points, with Aleksander Mitrovic grabbing a consolation for the visitors.
The Serbian marksman very nearly stole a point for the Cottagers in the dying minutes, only for the Tottenham goalkeeper to deny him.
Lloris, a £12 million signing in 2012, has been a massive influence on this Spurs side down the years.
And Lenglet, who joined on loan from Barcelona this summer, reserved praise for his fellow France international.
He told the club’s official website: “This is the definition of Hugo Lloris no? He’s always present when we have a bad moment and when we are in difficulty. He showed all his qualities on this save and we are very happy to have Hugo behind us.”
Lloris’s importance to Tottenham was epitomised yesterday.
It’s massively vital that Antonio Conte’s side continue to pick up points, pick up victories.
And with Son Heung-min still struggling this season, and Kane already scoring once yesterday, there’s still not many goals coming for Spurs outside of those two.
That means that victories are going to be relatively edgy, as their 1-0 win over Wolves in August proved.
It’s moments like the one Lloris produced which make all the difference and so long as Conte struggles to find regular goalscorers outside of Kane and Son, then the 35-year-old keeper will continue to be so important.
