Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter aren’t happy about Fabrizio Romano’s update on Cristian Romero.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the Atalanta centre-back in recent weeks.

It was reported by Sky Italia earlier in the week that the Argentina international had agreed a five-year deal to join Tottenham.

But Italian journalist Romano revealed on Thursday that there’s still a gap in the difference between what Spurs are willing to pay and what the Serie A club want.

According to Romano, the Lilywhites are only prepared to pay around £38 million – £9 million less than the selling club’s asking price.

The modern history of Tottenham is littered with examples of the North Londoners refusing to meet another club’s valuation of a player, most memorably with their failure to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa back in 2018.

Here’s how some Spurs fans are reacting to Romano’s update:

It’ll happen…..surely

On the plus side, there must be confidence from within Tottenham that they can get a deal done.

The club offloaded Toby Alderweireld a little earlier this week and they wouldn’t have dumped a centre-back without the knowledge that they could bring at least one replacement in before the Premier League season kicks off – against Manchester City in London – in only two weeks.

This Romero one will get done, despite the fans’ anxiety.
