There was a bit of a concern for Leeds United on Wednesday.
No, not because they were beaten 3-1 by a youthful Ajax side, but because there was no sign of Junior Firpo.
The left-back, whom Leeds signed from Barcelona this summer, was omitted from the squad for the trip to Amsterdam.
Firpo had started both pre-season friendlies under Marcelo Bielsa and therefore his absence was a bit of a worry.
Phil Hay of The Athletic claimed on Twitter that it was a precautionary measure due to a ‘minor knock’.
But here’s how some Leeds fans reacted to him missing out on the squad:
Risk?
Victor Orta has left the Whites a little short on left-back options.
Yes he has signed one in the form of Firpo, but two have also left.
Leif Davis has been loaned to Bournemouth and Ezgjan Alioski was released after failing to sign a new contract at Elland Road.
There are others – like Stuart Dallas – who can play in that role if Firpo’s injury isn’t as minor as it’s thought to be, but it’s still a risk, particularly when you consider how effective Dallas was in other positions in the Premier League last season.
Bielsa’s side kick off their Premier League campaign away to Manchester United in nine days.
