Well, Tottenham Hotspur avoided an embarrassing defeat on Sunday evening.
After being paired with Morecambe in the third round of the FA Cup, the Lilywhites, who were at home, were expected to stroll into the next phase of the competiton.
After all, Tottenham are one of the Premier League’s most in-form outfits under manager Antonio Conte and surely a League One opposition wouldn’t pose a difficult challenge.
Except, the minnows did.
In fact, Tottenham were 16 minutes from being dumped out of the competition until a fortuitous equaliser from Harry Winks to make it 1-1.
The Italian’s outfit went on to score a couple more to complete the comeback and progress into the fourth round.
However, Conte first had to introduce Lucas Moura and Harry Kane – who scored the final two goals – and Tottenham supporters are reacting negatively to the fact their manager needed to unleash the big guns to see off Morecambe.
Here’s how the fanbase reacted on Twitter:
Embarrassing?
Well it certainly isn’t a glowing reflection on Tottenham’s squad that they needed to introduce Kane.
However, this is precisely what substitutions are for, trying to find a mid-match advantage and Conte’s decision ultimately changed the contest for Spurs.
In an ideal world, the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli in the starting lineup would’ve been enough to see off the third-tier outfit.
However, Lo Celso has been injured for most of the campaign and the other two haven’t adapted to the former Chelsea manager positively at all, with Ndombele being booed off by supporters.
