Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after UEFA released a statement announcing that the clash with Rennes will not be played.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs were forced to postpone their UEFA Conference League game against Rennes, which the north Londoners needed to win if they were to progress into the knockout phases.

However, Tottenham and Rennes have been unable to agree on a date for the rescheduled fixture, meaning it will no longer go ahead at all.

Spurs were forced to close Hotspur Way due to the outbreak of COVID-19 amongst the squad, and also saw their Premier League encounter with Brighton postponed.

Now, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will analyse the situation to determine what happens in regards to the competitive aspect of the game.

As Football London discovered, however, it could now be curtains for Spurs in the UEFA Conference League.

COVID-19 has knocked Tottenham out

One paragraph in Annex J of the UEFA Europa Conference League regulations does not bode well for Antonio Conte.

It states that, if the match cannot be rescheduled, the club who couldn’t play the game will be held responsible for it failing to take place.

Furthermore, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will determine the game to have been forfeited by the club responsible, resulting in a 3-0 defeat.

By the looks of it, Tottenham are now out of the UEFA Conference League after a 3-0 loss to Rennes, without kicking a ball.

In our view, this is a disgraceful outcome.

Tottenham had no choice but to withdraw from the game, or else they’d risk the safety of their players as well as the Rennes squad’s safety.

It would be unfair to punish the north Londoners for putting health first.

For now, let’s see what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have been saying about UEFA’s statement…
