Kaveh Solhekol has claimed that Newcastle United transfer target, Diego Carlos, wants to leave Sevilla, as he told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (18/01/22 at 5:05 pm).

The Sky reporter shared that the 28-year-old wants to join Newcastle during the January transfer window.

Newcastle have made two transfer moves during the winter window – Kieran Trippier joining from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley.

Perhaps the most error-prone and problematic area of Newcastle’s game has been their centre-back position.

And regarding this news coming out about Carlos, they may now be a step closer to adding strength and bite to their backline.

This was the ‘really significant’ update transfer expert, Solhekol, shared on Carlos and his possible move to St James’ Park.

“I just told you that the player wants to move to Newcastle,” said Solhekol. “I have been told, the player has officially asked to leave Sevilla.

“Diego Carlos has asked to leave Sevilla. He wants to move to Newcastle. Sevilla are willing to do business.

“But the price has to be right for them. I think it is reported in Spain that the player may even have a release clause of €80 million (£67 million). That hasn’t been confirmed.

“This is really significant news for Newcastle United supporters. Diego Carlos has asked to leave Sevilla and he wants to move to Newcastle.”

If Newcastle manage to nab Carlos, then it is a statement of intent from the relegation-threatened side.

What is interesting is that Sevilla, who are sitting second in La Liga, travel to Valencia on Wednesday evening.

If Carlos isn’t part of the squad, then that in itself will be a sign that he is probably headed towards the Premier League.

Slowly, but surely, Newcastle are starting to make moves in the market, but they still have a long way to go yet.
