Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter after their Premier League clash with Burnley at Villa Park was postponed earlier today.

What’s the story?

Well, the decision was a late one, but Steven Gerrard’s meeting with Sean Dyche was put on hold due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The Villans had a number of positive tests returned, and they now join a number of other Premier League sides who have seen their games called off this weekend.

Unsurprisingly, the Aston Villa fans on Twitter were furious after hearing the news.

Many had already set off for the game, and it must be said that the decision was taken far later than it needed to be.

In our view, it would’ve made sense to postpone every Premier League fixture this weekend in order to have a circuit break, before hopefully starting afresh on Boxing Day.

The Premier League must be careful

In our view, it could be argued that now is a good time to follow the Bundesliga’s lead and have a winter break.

If we continue like this, the league will become disjointed with many clubs having games in hand over their rivals.

The Premier League also run the risk of causing an increase in positive cases if they allow the show to go on over the festive period.

If it came down to it, we’d much rather have a winter break if it meant the Premier League didn’t have to go behind closed doors again.

For now, let’s see what the Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been saying about the postponement…
