Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Björn Engels had left to join Royal Antwerp.
What’s the story?
Well, the 26-year-old has left Villa Park after roughly two years in the Midlands, following his £9 million arrival in 2019.
The club’s statement reflects his short time at Villa Park, as it contains just one line about his exit being subject to a medical.
Aston Villa haven’t even wished the Belgian well, nor have they thanked him for his efforts, which seems a bit strange.
Engels really fell out of favour under Dean Smith this season.
The centre-back didn’t play a single minute of Aston Villa’s Premier League campaign, nor did he appear in any cup competitions.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa were undroppable
In fairness to Engels, the partnership of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa was immense this season, so there was simply no way in.
The English duo are also immensely fit, and neither suffered many injuries, so Smith was able to start them pretty much week in, week out.

Despite that, the Villans definitely need a new centre-back now, in our view.
Behind Mings and Konsa, Smith only has Kortney Hause, so one more option is certainly necessary for depth.
For now, let’s see how the Aston Villa fans on Twitter reacted to the club’s announcement…
