But there are concerns about West Ham’s fan-base that a move to the Etihad Stadium could be too difficult to stop.
If West Ham were to lose Rice it would obviously be a major blow to them.
However, he has now reached a standard where he looks genuinely capable of playing for a title challenging side.
If West Ham can continue to progress and do make it into the top four then their chances of keeping Rice look strong.
But if they miss out on Europe again this term, then keeping the England international beyond the summer could be a real challenge.
