Shkodran Mustafi has reportedly turned down a chance to leave Arsenal.
The Germany international is one of many players rendered surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta this month.
With a salary of £90,000 per week, it might give Arsenal a bit of breathing room in the transfer market if they can get Mustafi off the wagebill, too.
But according to Calciomercato, the former Valencia centre-back has turned down a move to Italian side Genoa.
The report adds that Mustafi snubbed the Serie A outfit because of their rivalry with Sampdoria, where he spent two years of his career.
The 28-year-old has been an unpopular player among Arsenal fans for virtually his entire spell in North London, following a £35 million move under Arsene Wenger in 2016.
And suffice to say that supporters of the Emirates Stadium club aren’t over the moon with his latest decision either.
Here’s how they’re reacting on Twitter:
Despite loaning out William Saliba, Mustafi still has no future under Mikel Arteta it seems.
With Pablo Mari back after a long-term absence, and Rob Holding impressing alongside Gabriel this season, Arteta, who also has David Luiz on the books, just has no need for the German right now – or ever again.
