‘This is my club’: Player not looking to leave, after claims he’s been offered to Tottenham

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Troy Deeney has suggested that he will not be looking to leave Watford this summer on the Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT at 8am (20th August).

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that Deeney is being discussed as a potential addition by Tottenham, following Watford’s relegation, after he was offered to the Lilywhites.

However, Deeney insists that he is in no rush to leave Vicarage Road, despite the links with Spurs.

“This is my club. I’ve been here 10 years,” Deeney said.

“I’m not going to actively look to leave or anything of that nature. Why would I ask to leave now? If the club decide to go our separate ways then it is what it is.”

Jose Mourinho has been keen to add more leadership quality to Tottenham’s squad this summer, and Deeney would be another strong character to add to the Spurs dressing room.

Deeney has worn the captain’s armband at Watford, and is a hugely vocal and influential member of their squad.

The 32-year-old would also offer Spurs a powerful option off the bench, should they need an alternative option to Harry Kane.

Whoever Tottenham sign is only likely to play a back-up role, but that could still appeal to Deeney – who is now 32, and reaching the latter stages of his career.
