Ibrahima Konate has been speaking about a conversation he had with Jürgen Klopp before his £36m move to Liverpool in May 2021.

Ibrahima Konate stunned by Liverpool

Well, the France international has told Onze Mondial that he spoke to the German before swapping RB Leipzig for Liverpool, where he was told to expect major changes in his life.

Konate clearly felt his new boss was being slightly dramatic, as he admits he thought the 55-year-old needed to “chill” during that conversation.

However, Klopp was later proven right.

Konate said: “I remember, before I signed, I had the coach on the phone. He said to me: The day you sign for Liverpool, it will not be the same for you, your life will change.

“Wherever you travel in the world, you will see for yourself what I am telling you. In my head I was thinking: ‘OK, fine, it’s an incredible club with a great history, but chill’. I travelled, I went to Zanzibar this summer, and I was taking at least 50 photos a day. And then his sentence came back into my head. I thought: This is insane.”

Clearly, the Frenchman had no idea how much attention he would receive after joining the Reds.

Liverpool miss Ibrahima Konate

Unfortunately, the 23-year-old is yet to play for Liverpool this season due to a knee injury.

In his absence, the Reds have struggled to hit the heights of last season, winning just two of their opening seven Premier League fixtures to sit ninth in the table.

Without a doubt, Liverpool are missing Konate’s recovery pace at the back, which allows them to squeeze opponents higher up the field knowing their No.5 is quick enough to halt any counter attack.

The Paris-born colossus was fit enough to be named on the bench for the 2-0 win over Rangers, so hopefully, we will see him return to the starting XI soon.
