Newcastle United have reportedly been given permission to talk to Brighton and Hove Albion technical director Dan Ashworth.
According to the Athletic, the 50-year-old Premier League official is a figure Newcastle hold in high regard, with the Toon eager for Ashworth take over a similar position for the northeast club.
The former West Brom sporting director has been key to Brighton’s success in the Premier League over the past two seasons. Ashworth joined in 2019 and has been crucial to some impressive transfers taking place for the south coast club.
As well as the appointment of Graham Potter, the likes of Tariq Lamptey, Marc Cucurella and Enock Mwepu have all joined Brighton under Ashworth’s tenure, and it is no surprise that the Seagulls are eager to retain their technical director.
Under PIF, Newcastle are eager to both retain their Premier League status this season and build their squad out to one day become one of the best in England. And a top transfer guru will be key if they are to accomplish this goal.
Indeed, many names have been floating about for the position, yet it appears that Ashworth could be the man that Newcastle appoint to head up their transfer and player operations.
With the Toon sat in 19th and January just two weeks away, Newcastle will likely want Ashworth to join very soon. And on social media, supporters are eager for the 50-year-old to join Eddie Howe on Tyneside.
