Paul Merson has stated that Newcastle’s away clash at Liverpool on Thursday is ‘horrible’ for the relegation-threatened side, as he told Sportskeeda.
The TV pundit stated that Liverpool will thrash Newcastle 4-0 and Eddie Howe needs to ‘get this game out of the way’.
Manchester City put seven goals past another struggling side in Leeds on Tuesday and the Reds will want to respond tomorrow night.
It also needs to remember, and the Toon Army faithful won’t want to hear this, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are the top-scorers in the league – even after the current holders scoring seven.
After Newcastle conceded four last time out to Leicester City, then many will fear what is coming next could be worse.
And Merson was brutally honest when he stated that he doesn’t think this is going to be a pleasant evening for the Magpies.
“Newcastle United need to get this game out of the way,” said Merson. “They got absolutely slaughtered by Leicester City the other day and obviously wouldn’t want something like that to happen against Liverpool.
“This is a horrible game for them and I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win, so I think the home side will prevail 4-0.
“After Liverpool, Newcastle play the two Manchester clubs back-to-back in the Premier League, oh gosh that is a horrible run of fixtures for Eddie Howe and co.
” They are in major trouble and just need to make sure they hang in there and not get their confidence shot. Judging based on their fixtures, they aren’t going to get a single Premier League point from their next three games, so they’ll need the teams around them to go on bad runs and do them a favour.”

Newcastle simply can’t afford to write this game off, even if fans fear the worst and worry what happened to Leeds might happen to them.
Liverpool have won their last two league matches by one-goal margins and they will want to push them to the limit like Villa and Wolves did.
Plus, even if they get a point at Anfield, then that in itself will be a statement and a message that they are going to stick their chest out in this relegation battle.
Added with that, they will look towards last season and Joe Willock scoring a stoppage-time goal that helped them secure a point on Merseyside.
