Arsenal’s interest in Ben White certainly appears to be legitimate.
The Athletic reported on Friday that Arsenal have a ‘concrete’ interest in the Brighton & Hove Albion defender, who is gearing up to represent England at Euro 2020.
The report adds that Arsenal could expect to pay around £50 million for the young centre-back, who had a stellar first season in the Premier League with the Seagulls.
Here’s how some Albion fans reacted on Twitter to the prospect of him going to Arsenal:
Where does he fit in?
Well, Mikel Arteta absolutely needs new defenders this summer.
Remember, the Gunners finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League last season and couldn’t stop leaking goals at one point.
With Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi having left in January and David Luiz leaving this summer, there’s certainly room for Arteta to expand on his options.
This is especially true when you consider that William Saliba and Dinos Mavrapanos may yet leave the Emirates Stadium.
It remains to be seen whether White is a legitimate target but if he is, he’s certainly needed at Arsenal.
