Dublin , Ireland - 12 November 2018; Gareth McAuley arrives prior to a Northern Ireland Training Session at Gannon Park in Malahide, Dublin.

Rangers face Rapid Vienna tonight in a game which will decide whether they reach the Europa League knockout stages, or they are eliminated.

Manager Steven Gerrard has a big decision to make in defence, with four Rangers centre-backs vying for places.

Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall are all in contention, and Rangers can only pick two.

Goldson has been a regular this season, with different partners. It makes sense this evening for Steven Gerrard to pick Gareth McAuley.

McAuley has not started a Europa League match yet this season. This should not deter Gerrard from picking him.

Rangers signed McAuley for nights like this.

His experience could be absolutely crucial if Rangers are to progress.

McAuley is used to important European away trips, from numerous qualifying campaigns at international level with Northern Ireland.

Rangers signed the veteran for his know how and experience. It would be strange not to utilise it.

Worrall has played most regularly in the group stages, and has performed better than his domestic form. Nikola Katic had a horror show away at CSKA, but it was partly down to him that Rangers clinched qualification in the first place.

Gerrard is spoiled for choice and has to make the right call. On a huge night, McAuley is the man for the occasion.
