Michail Antonio says Harry Kane’s transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich is ‘crazy’ and that he should have stayed in the Premier League.

Given that the England captain was in sight of Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record, then the West Ham hitman thinks he shouldn’t have left his home country.

Not only that, Michail Antonio also feels that the Tottenham fans couldn’t have said anything, if in 12 months, Harry Kane decided to leave and join another Premier League side for nothing, as he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

That was an option for Kane because he had been long-linked to other English clubs, including that failed transfer to Manchester City a number of years ago.

But, with 12 months left to go on his contract and no signs that he was going to extend his stay at Spurs, they agreed to let him go and he was happy to join Bayern Munich.

Whilst this now increases the 30-year-old’s chances of winning a trophy, it’s not something Antonio agrees with.

“Let’s talk about Harry Kane,” said Antonio. “In my opinion, this is crazy. The man left the Premier League. He actually left.

“47 goals from the record and he has gone to Germany. I really don’t understand why he would do that. I can understand if you want to win something.

“But I feel no cup is going to beat being the record holder. What would you rather do? Winning the German league or being the all-time goalscorer in the Premier League?

“One-year left on his contract. Why on earth would you leave now for £100 million, instead of finishing at 31 and walking out for free? No Spurs fans could have said anything if he went for free.”

Kane could yet return

The England skipper has signed a four-year deal, so he could return to the Premier League at 34, and then go for Shearer’s record.

And, by the end of it all, he would still have trophies to his name, plus that individual honour.

It needs to be noted, he isn’t someone who needs pace to play, so there is every chance that he can go to 37 and still showcase his worth at the highest level.
