Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Scottish Football Association charged Steven Gerrard for his comments following the recent 4-0 win over Dundee United.
The Gers boss was asked for his thoughts on Ryan Edwards’ challenge on Alfredo Morelos, which left a gash in the striker’s leg and saw him stretchered off.
As Rangers’ statement mentions, Gerrard was asked about the incident, and refused to comment on several occasions.
However, he did eventually succumb to giving an answer.
Sky Sports quote him as saying: “I’d be very interested to see what the decision would’ve been from the officials had the shoe been on the other foot and Alfredo had made that tackle.”
Rangers’ statement reveals the club has been left “bemused” by the charge.
It also stated the Gers feel baffled that resources are being used to charge Gerrard during such unprecedented times. They also describe the situation as “bizarre” in the strongly worded statement.
Edwards is facing no further action for his studs-up challenge on the Colombian striker.
He didn’t receive a yellow card, let alone a red, for the tackle.
Interestingly, Sky Sports also adds the forward was just one of four Rangers players to suffer an injury in the fiercely competed Scottish Premiership encounter.
Dundee United definitely didn’t hold back in their 4-0 defeat, and Gerrard has now been charged after succumbing to a barrage of post-match questions.
