Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Sky Sports revealed that Dilan Markanday could leave on a permanent basis in search of first-team football.
What’s the story?
Well, the 20-year-old has been in excellent form for Tottenham’s Under-23 side this season, scoring 11 goals in 12 Premier League 2 games.
As a reward for his efforts, Antonio Conte handed him a first-team debut in the UEFA Conference League, where he played 15 minutes against Vitesse.
However, Sky Sports believe Markanday wants first-team football, and could leave N17 permanently in search of it.
Sky Sports add that Bournemouth, Stoke and Nottingham Forest are interested in the Tottenham Academy graduate.
One fan harshly blamed the situation on Steven Bergwijn, as the Dutchman plays in a similar position to Markanday and is blocking his route into the first-team.
Is history repeating itself for Tottenham with Dilan Markanday?
Another supporter wrote that there’s a worrying trend going on at Hotspur Way in light of the Markanday news.
They name-dropped Marcus Edwards and Noni Madueke, two forwards who left Tottenham’s Academy and have since gone on to flourish elsewhere.
Madueke is now starring for PSV Eindhoven, and the Daily Mail even claimed that Liverpool and Manchester United were considering a £34m move.
In regards to Edwards, he is shining for Vitoria Guimaraes, which attracted interest from West Ham, Southampton and Crystal Palace (TEAMtalk).
Will Markanday follow in their footsteps? Only time will tell.
