Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after finding out that Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler had bought Melwood.
Liverpool recently moved away from Melwood after the AXA Training Centre was constructed, leaving the old site vacant.
Now, Carragher and Fowler have purchased the property for a fantastic cause.
The pair will be repurposing Melwood to offer sport and education opportunities for children in Liverpool, according to Sky Sports.
The Fowler-Carragher academy will work alongside swim! and Beth Tweddle Gymnastics, who will be launching sporting hubs from the site.
Interestingly, Melwood will also become a college site.
This is fantastic news – it really is.
It would’ve been a great shame to see such a historic venue bulldozed to the ground once Jürgen Klopp’s side had vacated it.

Now, two Liverpool legends have ensured that it will be put to good use, while also preserving the property and its rich history.
It’s always sad to see an iconic property demolished.
It pained us to see Upton Park reduced to nothing but rubble.
It was also tough to see Highbury demolished once Arsenal moved to the Emirates Stadium.
To some, these places might just seem like soulless buildings.

However, to real football fans, they are steeped in history, and full of life.
From our point of view, we’re delighted to see Melwood being put to good use, rather than being sold off to be turned into flats or what not.
Carragher and Fowler have done Liverpool proud.
Let’s see how the Liverpool fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
