You know things are bad for Liverpool when Shkodran Mustafi isn’t the most bizarre centre-back you apparently want to sign.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are reportedly considering a move for the Arsenal defender, due to the ongoing crisis at Anfield.
Liverpool have no fit senior centre-backs and Fabinho, the midfielder who has superbly deputised for Virgil van Dijk this season, is also out too.
It’s a big problem for the Reds but according to ESPN, Klopp and Michael Edwards could look to bring New York Red Bulls powerhouse Aaron Long in on loan.
The 28-year-old has 18 caps for the United States’ national side, but has never played in Europe.
And understandably, some Liverpool fans on Twitter are just a little bit skeptical about bringing Long to Merseyside. Here’s how they’re reacting on social media:
This probably wouldn’t be a bad move.
Is he better than Van Dijk, Joe Gomez or Joel Matip? Nope and he probably isn’t even a better centre-back than Fabinho.
But he is quite a lot more experienced than the likes of Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips and that’s the important thing.
