Leeds United recorded a victory over Norwich on Saturday.

Leeds United confirmed themselves as participants in the Championship promotion race on Saturday as the dramatic win over Norwich City not only saw them move into the top six, but also saw them come away from one of the division’s title favourites with the three points.

A stoppage-time winner from Ronaldo Vieira handed the Whites a 3-2 win following a sensational game that had several twists and turns.

But despite recording a cup win over Norwich just last month, the victory was Leeds’ first in the league against the Canaries since October 2009. And that fact may prove to be of interest for superstitious followers of the Yorkshire club.

Seven years ago, Simon Grayson’s men faced Norwich at Elland Road in a League One clash that presented Leeds with the opportunity to go back to the top of the table if they avoided defeat.

And they got off to an excellent start as future Canary Bradley Johnson opened the scoring for the Whites after 15 minutes.

However, Grant Holt’s equaliser meant that the two teams went into the break level.

But, just like this past Saturday, Leeds secured the three points with a goal in stoppage-time as Jermaine Beckford capitalised on a mistake to put United two points clear at the top of the division.

What will encourage Leeds fans about the last league victory over Norwich is the fact that it came in a campaign which would ultimately see the side secure their most recent promotion.

And while ending their wait for a league win over Saturday’s opponents does not mean that they will be promoted by any means, it must be noted that the weekend’s victory was perhaps the first time that Leeds supporters began to truly believe that promotion may not be beyond them this term.
