Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has raved about his teammate Jordan Henderson on the club’s official website.

Wijnaldum rates fellow midfielder Henderson – who has been on the books of the Reds since the summer of 2011 when he joined from Sunderland for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million – highly and has hailed his personality.

The 30-year-old England international has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personalty of the Year.

Wijnaldum told Liverpool’s official website about Henderson: “Really proud. I think everyone at the club is really proud of him and also we are really happy to have him as a captain because the way he deals with situations is like a real leader. It’s really good to have him as a teammate and beside that, he’s a really good football player.

“He’s somebody when you look at him, you think like, ‘This guy is complete. He can play football, he’s a good captain and he’s a good friend and a good person.’ Not only me, but we are really happy to have him at the club. It’s really good that he’s nominated for that because he deserved that kind of recognition.”

Important player for Liverpool

Henderson did not always have the best of times when he initially moved to Liverpool, but the England international has now firmly established himself as a key figure in manager Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The former Sunderland star is a leader in the middle of the park who influences games a lot when he plays.

There have been injury problems, but when fit and available, the midfielder does a very good job for the Reds.

According to WhoScored, the 30-year-old has made six starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League and has made three starts and one substitute appearance in the Champions League for the Reds so far this season.
