‘This guy is an alien’: Troy Deeney names Arsenal ace in his top 5 players he’s faced

Troy Deeney told Drive on talkSPORT (11/11/20 at 6:40 pm) that Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is his top five players he has faced during his career.

The Watford striker likened the playmaker to ‘an alien’ and shared that what he loves about the Arsenal man is that he sees things ‘differently’ on the pitch.

Well, Ozil isn’t saying anything on the pitch, at this moment in time, because he has been completely snubbed by his current manager Mikel Arteta.

Deeney was asked to name the five best players he has faced during his career and he didn’t hesitate to put Ozil on his list.

“Is this a joke,” presenter Adrian Durham asked when Deeney selected Ozil in his top 5 best players he’s played against.

“Why are you doing that?” Deeney asked. “The question was ‘the best players I have played against’ and in the games he has played against us there have been times when you are like ‘this guy is an alien’.

“He is ridiculously good. Ridiculously good. Probably a couple of years ago now, he hasn’t played since has he?! I just think he’s immensely talented. I like people who can see the game differently. They are not just talented with the ball. But they can see other people’s runners. They make people better.

“In the games, we played against Arsenal, certainly in the 17/18 season, he was immense. Hugely talented. And when Ronaldo saying that he is the ‘second-best player in Spanish football’ behind himself then that’s high praise.”

There will be Arsenal fans out there who will feel that the ‘immensely talented’ footballer Deeney talks about should be out on that pitch right now.

But Arteta has made the quite ruthless decision that the German World Cup winner simply isn’t good enough, even for his 25-man squad, which is clearly lacking creativity.

On one hand, some may feel that player that was ripping it up many years ago is no longer there, whilst others will argue that Arsenal cannot do any worse in picking Ozil compared to what they already have or are already displaying.
