This change in Sunderland’s fixture list could have made staying up even tougher

David Moyes has a tough enough job on his hands trying to keep his flailing Sunderland side in the Premier League – now it seems even the fixture list is against the Black Cats.

Sunderland have lost 7 of their last 10 games, having won only 1 of those fixtures. They have also failed to score in the previous seven matches in all competitions.

Due to clashes with FA Cup and Champions League fixtures, Sunderland are already playing the final 10 games of the season in 7 weeks, a daunting prospect for any club.

However, after this weekend, a change in their schedule may have made things even tougher.

Following Arsenal’s progression to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Sunderland will now face the Gunners mere days before the final game of the season, an away trip to Chelsea. The Black Cats had been pencilled in to face Arsenal on April 22nd, the date of the semi final.

Those two matches are preceded by the three games that will doubtless define the season for Sunderland; matches against Bournemouth, Hull and Swansea will be the final hope for Moyes and his men.

However, if they struggle to keep Jermain Defoe fit for the constant run of games, they may lose their final life.
