Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing what David James said about Mohamed Salah, and it’s safe to say they’re stunned.

Speaking to Stadium Astro (via the Express), the former Liverpool glovesman said: “In my eyes, he might be second in the Golden Boot running, but I think Liverpool play better without Salah.

And the opportunity for them to cash in on him, Jota naturally fits into that front three, Firmino gets more freedom arguably, and Liverpool have a new dynamic.”

Now, we’re not really sure where to start with these comments.

Salah is absolutely pivotal to Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and without him, they’d have been in all sorts of trouble this season.

The table below reinforces that. Liverpool’s No.11 won the Reds 17 points in the Premier League this term with his 22 goals.

Without those goals, Liverpool would’ve been left on 52 points, securing them a 12th place finish.

Additionally, James talking about Diogo Jota as a ‘natural’ replacement for Salah doesn’t make sense to us.

However, he’s nothing like Salah. Jota is right-footed for a start, so he wouldn’t be able to cut in from the right like the ex-Chelsea man does.

James isn’t the first pundit to say something like this against Salah.

For some reason, Salah just doesn’t get the credit he deserves, despite already cementing his status as one of the best in Liverpool’s history.

The 69-cap Egypt international finds himself seventh on the list of Liverpool’s all-time top scorers, with 125 goals to his name. Wow.

His fine efforts should make him immune to criticism, but for whatever reason, negative comments always seem to follow Salah around.

Simply put, we’re not sure what James was talking about.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter think of his comments…
