Lee Dixon has heralded Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara following a moment of brilliance in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield tonight.

During the first half, Thiago set up an excellent chance for Liverpool.

The Spain international plucked the ball out of the sky with the deft touch we’ve come to associate with the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona maestro, just on the edge of Spurs’ penalty area following a corner.

But instead of going for goal, the 30-year-old clipped the ball over the top of Tottenham’s defence for Luis Diaz, who couldn’t direct his header past Hugo Lloris.

Taking a shot looked the only option, but Thiago found way a more efficient way in which to create an opening nonetheless.

And here’s what Dixon said about Liverpool’s number six, speaking live on NBC Sport: “Said it before. I’ll say it again. This bloke, with the 6 on the back, kicks the ball like nobody else on the pitch. Just look at the delivery on it. It’s absolutely wonderful to watch. He’s just a master at passing.”

Thiago, a £20 million signing in 2020, has established himself as a massive player for the Reds this season, following a pretty mixed first year on Merseyside which included covid-related absences and a number of injuries.

But this time around he’s been an ever-present figure and it’s no wonder that Jurgen Klopp’s outfit are in the running for a quadruple.

Tonight, however, was a backwards step in achieving that.

The point against Tottenham did indeed take Liverpool top of the Premier League, but Manchester City can move three points clear with three games left by beating Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.
