Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after some 11-second footage emerged of Pablo Mari battling with Jamie Vardy in Sunday’s 3-1 win.
The £14 million centre-back was caught in a footrace with the rapid Leicester No.9, which looked like it was going to end badly for him and Arsenal.
However, the Spaniard somehow managed to keep up with Vardy, before leaning into him and easing the 34-year-old off the ball.
Even the Foxes forward looked fairly shocked at what had just happened as he sat on the King Power Stadium pitch in disbelief.
Not many people can outpace Vardy, but Mari has got plenty of supporters talking after doing just that.
It was quite a surprise to see the 27-year-old accelerate like that.
Mari is a tall, physical defender, who at first glance, doesn’t appear to have much pace about him.
However, he clearly has quite an engine on him.
In our view, this will delight Mikel Arteta, as he should now feel comfortable in adopting a high line while the South American is playing.
After Mari and his teammates impressed in the Midlands, the Gunners now sit on 37 points – just two behind arch-rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal are also eight points away from the top four. It feels like a big ask, but a string of wins over the next few weeks could set up a dramatic end to the campaign for the north Londoners.
