Cesc Fabregas has lavished praise on Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard during tonight’s visit of Chelsea.
Aston Villa produced a brave performance against Champions League winners Chelsea in the Midlands tonight.
But it wasn’t enough as the Blues return to London with a 3-1 victory.
Gerrard’s side even went ahead but a spot kick from Jorginho levelled up matters before the break.
Romelu Lukaku fired home what looked to be the winner on 56 minutes, only for the Italy midfielder to add another from the penalty spot late on.
But the former Arsenal maestro is still mightily impressed by Aston Villa nonetheless.
Gerrard has had seven Premier League games since joining the Villa Park club from Rangers in November.
This was his third defeat but the other two were against Manchester City and Liverpool – and two of them were by only the one goal.

It’s undeniable that the Midlands outfit have so much more character since Gerrard replaced Dean Smith at Bodymoor Heath.
These days, even the best teams in England can and do struggle against Villa.
And if that isn’t a feather in Gerrard’s cap then what is?
Despite losing to Chelsea, the Villans remain 10th in the Premier League table.
