Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in disgust after watching a five-second video of two separate incidents from this season.

The two clips are played simultaneously alongside each other, and show an alarming lack of consistency in the Premier League’s rulebook this term.

One of the clips shows Kevin De Bruyne crossing the ball in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City earlier this season.

As you may know, the ball struck Joe Gomez’s arm and a penalty was awarded.

The second clip shows Georginio Wijnaldum taking a shot at Southampton’s goal last night, with the ball seemingly heading on target.

However, Jack Stephens blocked the ball with his arm. Contrastingly, on this occasion, no penalty was given.

We appreciate that the rules have changed in comparison to last season and the current campaign.

However, what is most concerning is the fact that both incidents occurred this term – Liverpool fans have every right to be annoyed.

Last night’s defeat to Southampton also saw Andre Marriner wave away what appeared to be a stonewall penalty, based on recent events.

Kyle Walker-Peters tripped Sadio Mane, causing him to hit the deck. No spot-kick was awarded.

However, Paul Pogba and Douglas Luiz were involved in a similar coming together on Friday, and the Frenchman won a penalty on that occasion.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about the clip…
