‘Big joke’: Some Man City fans can’t believe who reportedly wants to sign Sterling

FC Barcelona are reportedly eyeing up a move for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling in the January transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants are watching Sterling as well as RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo. Barcelona are eager to add an extra attacker to their squad with an emphasis on creative prowess.

The England international was one of the stars of Euro 2020. However, Sterling has found it difficult to find regular first-team minutes for City this season, which might explain the sudden interest from Barcelona.

Moreover, the attacker is yet to sign a new contract with City. Meaning that Barcelona could be eyeing a cheap deal for Sterling, who Guardiola might be open to selling in January.

However, there is of course a huge issue. That being Barcelona’s finances are notoriously non-existent. The Catalan giants are well over €1bn in debt, and all of their signings this summer were free transfers.

Indeed, the club were unable to retain Lionel Messi due to La Liga wage restrictions making it impossible for Barcelona to sign their star asset to a new contract. Yet the situation is now much more manageable.

Despite this, City fans on social media refuse to believe that Barcelona will pay actual money for Sterling. The attacker will no doubt command a hefty transfer fee.
