Tottenham should move for another striker this summer.
Roberto Soldado at a Villarreal press conference
Tottenham hoped lightening could not strike twice – but it seems their biggest fears have been realised, that they have bought another Roberto Soldado.
The Spaniard fared so badly at Spurs that the club did not sign another striker until last summer, with chairman Daniel Levy wary of spending big in the market.
Unfortunately his move for Vincent Janssen also appears to be a bust, with the Dutchman failing to score from open play all season.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen
Part of the problem for Tottenham was the wait between 2013 and 2016 to sign another striker, which held back their achievements during this period.
Harry Kane’s emergence to the first team has been a godsend, but the whole point of signing Janssen was to alleviate the pressure on the England ace and give them cover in case of injury.
It is understandable that Levy will be wary after the double failure, but Tottenham cannot afford to wait until 2019, to sign their next forward.
They need to make a decisive move this summer, and keep doing so every summer until they find the player they are looking for, even if it means getting tough and ruthlessly discarding the flops along the way.
With a bit of good fortune and sensible scouting, they might just nail it this upcoming transfer window, and make it third time lucky.
