Third club to rival Liverpool for Origi – report

According to reports in Germany, Wolfsburg are now monitoring the 19-year-old Liverpool target.

After a breakthrough World Cup, interest in Divock Origi has soared, with the Belgium forward heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

The assumption was that the young striker will join the Reds this summer, with reports suggesting that a deal is close and that he will be loaned back to current club Lille.

However, reported interest from Borussia Dortmund seemed to offer some complications, and then Real Madrid were said to enter the hunt for the 19-year-old, providing Liverpool with even further competition.

Now, according to Kicker, a third club has entered the bidding for Origi – Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

According to the publication, the German team want to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid but have identified Origi as an alternative should a move fall through for the Spaniard.

Madrid will inadvertently be affected by the deal, then, as they will have to decide whether to pursue the Belgian themselves and allow Morata to join Wolfsburg, or keep faith in the 21-year-old, who has also been strongly linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus.

For Liverpool, though, interest from three new clubs may mean that they will have to pull out all the stops in negotiations – or risk missing out on their target.

As Opta stats show, Origi scored once and won more aerial duels than fellow Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku during the World Cup. He also created another goal after his shot rebounded for Jan Vertonghen to convert against South Korea.

It is Origi’s pace that is considered most impressive, however, which helped him win 10 dribbles in Brazil, only bettered for Belgium by Eden Hazard.
