Ozan Kabak is hardly making Liverpool curse their decision to not sign him.
Liverpool could’ve snapped up the centre-back for only £18 million this past summer.
The 21-year-old impressed on a half-season loan at Anfield last term, following their injury crisis of defensive options.
But Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards elected against a permanent deal, allowing Kabak to leave in July when his loan officially ended.
And if either of the Liverpool pair were watching Leeds’ win at Norwich City on Sunday, they can probably feel a little vindicated.
That’s because Leeds’ winner through Rodrigo stemmed from the Schalke loanee trying and failing a Zidane-like turn, deep in his own half.
After losing the ball, the Elland Road club wound up scoring the winner.
And Jamie Redknapp had some strong words for the player during his full-time analysis on Sky Sports.
He said: “Kabak thinks he’s turned into a prime Zidane, trying to do 360s on the edge of the box. Just get rid of it. Don’t try and do that in your own half.”
Inexperience
This doesn’t make Kabak a bad centre-back – not by a long shot.
All it proves is that he’s still learning English football which, if you saw his age, should be obvious.
At 21, he’s going to make mistakes like this and the fact that he’s playing for the Premier League’s worst team will do the lad no favours at all.
Liverpool were right to sign Ibrahima Konate instead, even if he cost double what Kabak would have.
But in time, the Turkey international will prove a fine centre-back, though for now, he remains very raw.
