Paul Gilmour has told Sky Sports News that Tottenham Hotspur may well have Antonio Conte in place before their game on Thursday night.

Conte to Spurs?

Tottenham only parted company with Nuno this morning, but already Conte seems to be the favourite to land the job.

The Italian boss is said to be in London for talks with Spurs, as they look to make him their new manager.

And Gilmour has suggested that Tottenham may well have a deal all sewn up in the next few days.

“Things moving very quickly,” he said. “Antonio Conte is actually in London for talks with Tottenham, Sky Italy are reporting.

“They are saying that this is in the final stages of negotiations and talks.

“What a coup this would be for Tottenham.

“Conte is so high up on their list and somebody that Tottenham want.

“Spurs have said they will give an update on the coaching situation later today, and if the negotiations move fast, Conte could well be in for the Vitesse Arnhem game on Thursday.

“The players are undergoing a recovery day, they are working with the sports scientist today, so they wouldn’t be working with a manger today – so they have today to play with.”

Moving fast

Tottenham’s swift move for Conte, if it does go through, will be in stark contrast to their dallying over the summer.

When Jose Mourinho left, Spurs appeared to have no precise plan in place, and ultimately they fell into appointing Nuno.

Tottenham have made it clear that Conte is their first choice from the outset here, though.

Daniel Levy will now be desperate for negotiations to go smoothly.

Spurs fans audibly chanted for Levy to leave the club last weekend, and if Tottenham fail to land Conte for a second time, the reaction will be one of extreme frustration.
