Newcastle United are said to be interested in snapping up the pair from Sunderland.

Josh Maja of Sunderland (C) is tackled by Beni Baningime (L) and Harry Charley (R) of Everton during the Premier League 2 match between Sunderland and Everton at the Hetton Centre on...

According to a report in the Chronicle, Sunderland could be forced to sell both Josh Maja and Joel Asoro to raise funds for their own additions this summer.

The Chronicle have reported how Sunderland’s terrible season has seen the value of their players dramatically dip.

With the Black Cats now needing to bring in some funds, to fit in with Financial Fair Play regulations, they may be forced to let go of some of the players they thought would be key for next season.

And that could play right into Newcastle United’s hands, as they eye up a swoop for the young pair, according to The Daily Mail.

Newcastle have money to spend this summer, and they would almost certainly have the financial might to bring in Maja and Asoro.

The pair have just a year left on their current contracts, which means that this could be the last chance Sunderland have to raise money for the pair.

Joel Asoro of Sunderland arrives ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between QPR and Sunderland at Loftus Road on March 10, 2018 in London, England.

Although the Black Cats will desperately not want to do a deal with Newcastle, they may be left with no choice.

Sunderland need to raise funds, as they are going to need a whole host of additions, if they are to bounce back from relegation to League One.

And things really seem to be falling into place for Rafael Benitez, as he eyes a double-swoop to bring the talented pair of Sunderland prospects to St James’ Park to bolster Newcastle’s options.
