The one-time teen sensation is moving ever closer to obscurity 18 months after leaving Leeds United.
For a time, it looked like Leeds United had another gem in the making in the form of midfielder Chris Dawson.
But despite a number of teenagers playing regularly for the Whites in recent years, Dawson was conspicuous by his absence, managing only four senior appearances before being released by the Whites in January 2016.
It was a bitter blow for a player that had been tipped for greatness at Elland Road, but whatever the reason, he was overlooked by a whole host of managers and never got a fair crack of the whip.
Soon after he was snapped up by Rotherham United, who were managed by former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn at the time.
If there was any indication of Dawson’s innate talent it was the fact that a man who knew him extremely well from his time running Leeds’ academy was so quick to sign him. Unfortunately for both men, Redfearn was sacked and the midfielder’s chances of salvation were dealt another blow.
Quickly falling down the pecking order at Rotherham, he was shipped out on loan to Norwegian side Viking Stavanger in a move that prompted plenty of head scratching.

And now, after returning from that loan spell with two assists in nine appearances, Dawson has been released by Rotherham just as he was by Leeds 18 months earlier.
The question has to be asked: If Dawson really is as good as his fans once had us believe, why has he not made it thus far?
At 22, time is on his side, but he will not be able to say that for much longer, and all those Leeds managers that regularly overlooked the former youth sensation look to have been proved right.
