Aurelien Tchouameni joining Liverpool is swiftly becoming a genuine possibility.

The Reds have been heavily linked with signing the Monaco powerhouse in recent weeks.

Earlier in May, it was reported that the French midfielder wanted to join Liverpool, who have since been joined in the race by Spanish giants Real Madrid – their Champions League final opponents.

According to 90min, the Anfield outfit – and Manchester City – scouted him a couple of weeks ago as Tchouameni scored two goals in a victory over Lille, producing the perfect audition in front of such stellar guests.

Liverpool are linked with a number of other players this summer, too.

But according to a Belgium-based journalist, Sacha Tavolieri, the £50 million-rated 22-year-old is absolutely the priority for the Reds’ hierarchy.

He has told Empire of the Kop: “I can say to you that the interest for Tchouameni is really high. They [Liverpool] consider getting this player as one of the priorities during the transfer window of this summer. Things could move next week because the opponent of the Reds on that race has not given up yet. I think the club who wants the player will need to give at least £50m to Monaco.”

Good signing?

In a word, yes.

It seems like Jurgen Klopp is trying to build his next great squad at Anfield – and Aurelien Tchouameni joining Liverpool would certainly be another example of that.

Fabinho is one of the world’s finest defensive midfielders, but the 28-year-old has been a little bit erratic in recent weeks and is picking up more injuries than before.

Tchouameni is six years younger and it seems probable that Klopp views the big man as Fabinho’s long-term successor for that role.

Yes, he’s relatively expensive at £50 million, but this is the price you pay for the world’s best youngsters and if Liverpool don’t pay it, someone else will.
