Writing in his predictions column for the BBC, Chris Sutton has attempted to predict Monday evening’s Merseyside derby.
Everton head to Anfield on Monday night, and despite having a torrid season so far, the Toffees come into this game with a bit of hope.
Indeed, after Liverpool were again beaten by Wolves last weekend, the Reds look to be at their lowest ebb for quite some time.
Meanwhile, after a brilliant win against Arsenal, Everton are on the up, and Sutton has actually backed the Blues to win this one 2-1.
Sutton says Everton will win 2-1
Sutton gave his verdict on how this game will turn out.
“Everton were well organised and had hunger and desire against Arsenal, and they also carried a threat – I think they will play with the same intensity again, and I am expecting them to score again too,” Sutton wrote.
“Jurgen Klopp’s side will always be dangerous going forward too but, at this moment in time, based on Everton’s last performance and Liverpool’s performances over a long period of time, I have to back Dyche’s side – even at Anfield.
“I definitely wouldn’t have predicted Dyche’s victory on his last visit there, with Burnley in 2021 to end Liverpool’s 68-game home unbeaten run in the Premier League, but things are very different now.
“There is simply no reason to believe the Reds will suddenly turn the corner and start playing any better than they have been, so why would anyone back them to win this game?”
Every chance
It sounds ridiculous to predict an Everton win against Liverpool at Anfield while they’re sat in the bottom three, but you have to say that they have every chance here.
Last week, the Toffees played with more fight than we’ve seen from Liverpool all season, and if they take the game to the Reds at Anfield, they could ruffle a few feathers.
This may be one of the most interesting Merseyside derbies we’ve seen for a while.
