Arsenal legend Thierry Henry said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, September 9, 2016) that Tottenham Hotspur are not contenders for the Premier League title this season despite making a number of signings in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham signed Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko from Southampton, AZ, Marseille and Newcastle United respectively in the summer.

Spurs also recruited goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a season-long loan deal from Espanyol, while Juan Pablo Gonzalez Velasco joined the North London club’s Under-18 group.

Former Arsenal striker Henry, though, is not convinced that Tottenham will be able to launch a challenge for the Premier League title this season.

“Title, title, I don’t know about the title, but I think they are on the way of becoming a bigger club, if I can say, in England,” said Henry on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, September 9, 2016) when asked about Tottenham’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season after making the signings in the summer.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are the top three contenders for the Premier League title this season.

It will be hard for Spurs to push for the title and even for a Champions League place.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have top-four ambitions, and this season Tottenham may have to focus on retaining their place in the Champions League.

However, not many would have expected Mauricio Pochettino’s side to push for the title until the final weeks of last season.

Perhaps Tottenham could do something similar during the 2016-17 campaign…
