Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has said Harry Kane is his biggest surprise of the season.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has picked out Harry Kane as his biggest surprise of the season.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker has emerged from being a fringe player at the club to their clear first choice striker, leaving £26 million signing Roberto Soldado as an afterthought.
Kane netted his 31st goal in all competitions at the weekend as Spurs beat Everton, his 21st in the Premier League.
Speaking to The Sun, former French international Henry said: “The emergence of Spurs’ Harry Kane has been the biggest surprise.
“To start the campaign on the bench but then net 30 goals and score on your England debut is a remarkable feat.”
| Team | Goals | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sergio Agüero | Man City | 26 | 33 |
| Harry Kane | Tottenham | 21 | 34 |
| Diego Costa | Chelsea | 20 | 26 |
| Charlie Austin | QPR | 18 | 35 |
| Alexis Sánchez | Arsenal | 16 | 35 |
Kane missed out on winning the Premier League golden boot to Sergio Aguero, but the fact he was second says it all about his emergence, outscoring Arsenal’s big money signing Alexis Sanchez.
Tottenham were so bowled over by his performances they handed the 21-year-old striker a long-term contract until 2020.
His season can get even better too, as he is set to lead the line for England’s under-21 side at the European Championships which he helped the team qualify for, despite being classed as good enough to represent the senior side.
Kane’s success has clearly surprised many, including opposition defences, and the challenge for him will come next season when he is given special attention, to see if he can replicate his form.
