Speaking to Sky Sports, Thierry Henry has claimed that Sunderland are reminding him of Aston Villa last year.

The Black Cats are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just two points from their first 10 games.

They are yet to win this season; with Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Arsenal meaning that they have now suffered the worst start to a season in Premier League history.

Their start is reminiscent of Aston Villa’s situation last year, with Villans only managing four points from their first 10 games.

And Henry says he can see comparisons between the two teams, something whch is certainly not a good thing.

“When I’m watching Sunderland play it reminds me of Aston Villa last year and that’s not a good sign,” he told Sky Sports.

“You come back to 1-1 against Arsenal and who knows what’s going to come next but there wasn’t any happiness when Defoe scored.

“There wasn’t any desire to try and go and win that game. They have to do way more than that, they have to go back to basics.”

It remains to be seen if Sunderland can turn around their current poor form, with the situation looking bleak to say the least.

They are already seven points from safety, which is a big gap to make up even at this early stage of the campaign.

Their performances are not improving either and they will have to be careful to avoid being cut adrift early on, just as Aston Villa were last season.
