Thierry Henry was discussing Arsenal’s striker issues before their Champions League defeat to Porto on Wednesday night.
Whilst some are in the camp that a number nine needed to be added to the squad in January, the legendary player was keen to ask ‘In January, who are you bringing in that is already better than the player you have?’
That’s when the name of Napoli sensation Victor Osimhen was put on the table, with talk that the 25-year-old might leave in the summer.
Arsenal fans would love to have a player of his ilk on their books, regardless of what happens in the Premier League title race this season.
But sources have told HITC Football, with Kylian Mbappe set to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, they now want to add the sought-after Nigerian star to their ranks. A player recently dubbed ‘very intelligent’ by Gary Lineker.
Thierry Henry stated that he expects Arsenal to sign a striker this summer, but when it comes to Victor Osimhen specifically, he made it clear ‘You need to call Mikel (Arteta) for that’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (21/02/24 at 7:20 pm).
Whilst clubs were pretty quiet during the January transfer window, expect things to explode once more in the summer.
Arsenal’s search for a striker
“In the summer, yes I can understand a bit better when people were screaming about a striker,” said Henry.
“In January, who are you bringing in that is already better than the player that you have? They just need to put the ball into the back of the net.
“To go back to your point, yes, I think that’s something Mikel Arteta is going to look upon at the end of the season and see who he can bring into his team.
Micah Richards then throws Osimhen’s name forward: “Sorry?” responded Henry. “You need to call Mikel for that.”

Where should Victor Osimhen go?
Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG, you name it. A number of teams are in for him and he has the pick of some seriously big teams to join.
But, straight out from the bat, he should pick a team that’s in the Champions League, which is going to rule out Chelsea because they might not even finish in Europe this season.
Then it’s a case of playing in the Premier League or France’s top tier? Whilst many would pick playing in England, the lure of being the main man at PSG might be too hard to turn down.
Plus, from a financial aspect, they might offer him a package that, not even Premier League teams will be able to put on the table.
