Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are out of contract in six months.

Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal look on during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on December 16, 2017 in London, England.

Thierry Henry has said on Sky Sports that it is “astonishing” how Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could lose Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for free.

The two Arsenal stars are out of contract in the summer and Wenger faces the very real threat of losing his marquee players – who cost a combined a £77.5 million – on Bosmans unless one or both leave in the January transfer window.

Sanchez and Ozil are two of the Frenchman’s most influential players and Wenger has found himself the subject of criticism for allowing this situation to develop without acting.

Manchester City offered £55 million for the Chilean attacker on transfer deadline day in August, according to The Guardian, but Wenger’s failure to coax Thomas Lemar from Monaco forced the 68-year-old to reject the bid.

But Gunners legend Henry, signed by Wenger in 1999, can’t quite believe how his beloved Arsenal have found themselves in such a precarious position regarding their biggest assets.

“You find yourselves in a situation where those guys can leave without you getting money,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s astonishing for me. How? They’re going to go. Robin van Persie went, I went, a lot of players went – [but] they got money for it. Those guys might go on a free.”

If Arsenal do lose the duo for free then serious questions must be asked of the veteran manager, who joined the club in 1996.

It would arguably be gross negligence on a major scale and surely those Arsenal fans who still trust Wenger must reconsider their stance on him.
