Arsenal legend says Tottenham should be strengthening in other areas.
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry says Tottenham Hotspur should be focusing on signing attacking players rather than defenders.
Spurs recently agreed a deal to sign defender Davinson Sanchez, their first summer signing.
Henry told The Sun that the transfer does not really make Spurs better.
He said: “Signing Davinson Sanchez from Ajax is a start, but only a start.
“He’s a defender and Spurs have the best defence anyway. There are other areas that need improving.
“They are dancing with the big boys now. And if you want to be a big club, you have to act like a big club.”
He added in his column that he is underwhelmed by Tottenham’s business, having sold Kyle Walker to rivals Manchester City, warning that more players will follow him out the door if they cannot start winning trophies.
Henry’s words are a common criticism of Spurs from pundits this summer, and Danny Rose’s controversial interview recently showed that there is some substance behind this concern.
Signing Sanchez may not have been a desperate need for Spurs, but it does what they needed – gives the squad serious depth – a point Henry raised, that their first XI is strong but they do not have the same quality behind that.
The addition of the Ajax man gives Tottenham options tactically to play three at the back and allows them to rotate two at the back as they push to win in multiple competitions.
It might just go on to be an inspired addition.
