Thierry Henry was instrumental as BWP scored a hat-trick in the MLS tie against Houston Dynamo.
The New York Red Bulls dealt out a thrashing against the Houston Dynamo last night in a MLS Soccer tie at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey – winning 4-0 – and there was a definite Arsenal connection to the events.
Thierry Henry, the club captain, was of course involved – as was the son of the man whose goalscoring record he overtook in North London.
Thierry Henry scored 226 goals in his 369 appearances for The Gunners – making him the club’s record goalscorer. The man he overtook, on 185 goals, was Ian Wright.
Well nowadays Henry plays with one of Wrighty’s sons – Bradley Wright-Phillips.
The former Southampton and Charlton Athletic man moved Stateside in July 2013 – and last night he created history. Becoming the first ever Englishman to score a MLS hat-trick.
And Henry had a big hand in things.
He set him up for the first goal, started the move for the second and after bagging a goal himself from a BWP rebounded shot – he gave Wright-Phillips permission to take a 90th minute penalty to go down in the record books.
